The AVCSL has access to numerous laboratory facilities to enable
hardware experimentation in various constrained operational
environments. Hardware implemented within the AVCSL includes:
·
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs)
·
Autonomus ground vehicles
(AGVs), both wheel and wheel-legged.
·
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), both
fixed and rotary wing.
·
Representative autonomous spacecraft vehicles.
Two primary facilities are used to enable constrained testing of AUVs, AGVs and
autonomous spacecraft: a water
tank and a purpose built isolated test bed environment.
A large static water tank, which is based within the University of
Southampton and belonging to the Ship Science department of the School of
Engineering Sciences, provides an ideal environment for AUV development and
experimentation.
The isolated
test bed environment, purpose built within the University of
Southampton, permits 5DoF experimentation on representative autonomous
spacecraft and may also be reconfigured to an urban environment for AGV
experimentation. Further details of this testbed, applied to 5DoF
experimentation, may be found here.
